PLANO -- It would not have been surprising for the women's soccer team to come out flat against Prestonwood last night after defeating Ursuline and then having their road game time moved up to 5:30. But with the leadership and drive the Friars have, they did the exact opposite and defeated the Lady Lions 3-0 in their home stadium.
Bella Alamo was a big reason the Friars were able toÂ
defeat Ursuline on Monday night and she continued her success on the pitch Thursday. She opened up the scoring in the first half with a beautiful goal set up by
Ellis Kuntz to make it 1-0.
Karsil Osong has been a valuable member off the bench for the soccer team all year and when she was subbed in she made an immediate impact in the match. Within a minute of getting onto the field, Osong scored her third goal of the season off a great setup by
Alyx Beard to make it 2-0 Friars.
Osong wasn't done with her best match of the season yet as she wanted to help the Friars get a three-goal halftime advantage. Late in the first half, she set up Alamo who scored her second goal of the first half, her third goal in two matches, to give the Friars the commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
That would be enough for the Friars to win, as
Lily Bracken and
Alicia Gonzalez combined for the Friars' sixth clean sheet of the season, four of which have been in district play. Though the goalkeeping for the black and white has been fantastic, a lot of that has been due to the play from the back line. Defensively the Friars are led by senior
Rowan Myers, who combined with
Bailey Romack,
Valerie Veloz,
Genevieve Boisbrun and
Danielle Howard, makes it tough for opponents to even have a chance to score.
