PLANO -- Baseball plays in many tournaments throughout the year, and in 2023 the first tournament for the Bishop Lynch baseball team is the Matt Clark Classic. The tournament was filled with many talented teams and provided a great experience for the Friars and a sense on confidence as they went 4-0.

Day one was on Thursday and the lineup consisted of a double-header against McKinney Christian and Southwest Christian. The Friars took care of business over McKinney Christian, winning 10-4 behind a strong day at the plate by catcher Ben McLean. McLean went 3-4 at the plate and was one of seven Friars to get an RBI in the victory.

Next on the docket was Southwest Christian. Southwest Christian is a very good team that went 30-7 last season. The game went down to the wire and in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ryder Bunfill hit a walk-off single to give the Friars the 4-3 victory.

On Friday, the Friars had a game against Legacy Christian, the team that had just beaten them in Globe Life Park earlier in the week. In what was a tight game, the Friars' offense exploded with a 5-run bottom of the fifth to get the 6-0 victory.

Saturday was the finale for the Friars in the Matt Clark Classic against Fort Worth Christian. Senior ace Brandon Bertsch took the mound for the Friars and never gave it up. He threw a complete game shutout to help the Friars win 6-0. Bertsch finished with seven strikeouts while only giving up two hits.

NEXT UP:
The Friars play in the Private School Classic starting on Thursday. Their first game will be against Bishop Dunne, who the Friars beat in their season opener 10-1. You can read that recap here.
