HOUSTON -- The Bishop Lynch women's soccer team traveled down I-45 to take on the number one seed from the southern district in St. Agnes Academy. The 80-minute physical match ended with the Friars winning 2-1 behind two goals from sophomore Ellis Kuntz.

The Friars knew that this game was going to be a tough one as St. Agnes is a great team. The team wanted to start out fast and take the momentum away from the home team and that is exactly what happened. After both teams had felt each other out, Ellis Kuntz broke the scoreless 0-0 tie in the 21st minute as the sophomore got one past the opposing keeper to make it 1-0 Friars. Alyx Beard set up the goal for the Friars.

After getting the first goal, Kuntz was hungry for more and just two minutes later she found the back of the net once again, this time with an assist from Katie Visintainer. With the score 2-0 with 18 minutes left in the first half, the Friars knew the last 58 minutes of the game would be difficult.

Both teams had chances to score in the final minutes of the first half, but the score remained 2-0 in the Friars' favor. Even after the first 25 minutes of the second half, BL remained up two goals but the St. Agnes attack was ramping up.

With just eight and a half minutes remaining in the game, St. Agnes got a penalty kick rewarded to them. They took advantage of the opportunity and capitalized on the chance to make it 2-1. With just over eight minutes to go, the Friars' defense had to step up.

The Friars' defense has been their backbone all season and it continued to be a bright spot at the end of this regional match. BL held off every attack St. Agnes threw at them and when the clock hit 0:00 the Friars had won 2-1 and were advancing to the semi-finals.

Bishop Lynch will be facing off against the defending TAPPS State Champs John Paul II this Thursday, March 2nd at 4:00 PM in Round Rock. More details to come.
