DALLAS, TX -- The midway point of soccer season usually means less-than-ideal weather, and that was the case last night in the district match between Bishop Lynch and Parish Episcopal. In a game that saw no goal in playing time, the Friars found a way to win 4-3 in penalty kicks with Ellis Kuntz making the winner.

After full-time and extra-time, the match was all locked up at 0-0. The Friars seemed to have the advantage throughout the entire match but couldn't find the back of the net. This forced the Friars and the Panthers to go into penalty kicks, which was the first time for Bishop Lynch this year.

The penalty kicks started with Parish. In penalty kicks, each team gets five kicks and the team with the advantage after five kicks wins the game. If it is tied after five attempts, it goes into sudden death.

In goal for the Friars was junior Alicia Gonzalez. Gonzalez made a superior save right off the bat to give the Friars the early advantage that would soon go away after a miss from BL on their first try.

Both Parish and Bishop Lynch would make their next three kicks to enter the fifth all tied up at three. The three kicks were made by Madison Murphy, Emma Soignier, and Sasha Mascarenhas.

The fifth attempt from Parish was missed which brought up Ellis Kuntz for a chance to win. Kuntz stepped up to the penalty area and when the ref blew the whistle, she buried the ball to the lower left corner of the goal for the Friar victory.

This was a big win for the Friars as it put them solely into second place in district play at the midway point of the season. It also marked their fourth straight win with a scoring margin of 10-1.

The Friars hit the road again to take on district number one Ursuline Academy on January 25. The match will be at Ursuline Academy with the first whistle at 7:30 p.m. CT.
