PLANO, TX -- The Bishop Lynch women's soccer team defeated John Paul II last night 2-0 for its fourth straight victory. With the win, the Friars move to 8-2 in TAPPS play and 9-6-1 overall.
The Friars opened up the scoring with a fantastic breakaway finish from senior
Sasha Mascarenhas.
Emma Soignier led the speedster with a perfect through ball and when Mascarenhas caught up to the ball, she one-timed it past the Lady Cardinal keeper to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors. This is the second straight game with a goal for the senior forward.
In the second half, with the Friars still leading 1-0, they were presented with a corner kick. The women have been outstanding in scoring on set plays and that continued last night. After the ball got up in the air,
Reese Myers found a way to get her foot on the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0.
That score would be the final in large part to the way the defense played. Despite being down their anchor and captain Baily Romack, the Friars found a way to shut out John Paul II in their home stadium.
